So you're not obligated to create a Facebook account. They just put in that option in case people on Facebook don't want to create Kickstarter accounts.
Now if you want to pay without making a Kickstarter account, this is where it gets tricky. I have a paypal account, I'm taking donations there, and then I'm putting people's names on a list, forwarding cash to dad, and he ups his pledge accordingly. This is messier but it's been an option for people without credit cards.
