Part of the desk is obscured--you also don't see that behind where the laptop goes (the monitor is obscuring the view) is a haphazard pile of papers, tea herbs in twist-tied bags, bus tickets, OTC cold/allergy med boxes and other things. I'm sure it would be messier, but moving from one place to another has a way of making me get rid of a lot of stuff that isn't getting used.
