This photo is at once a poor representation of the set itself and the best representation of the bulk of the evening's shots. Who knows what wonders could have been visible to you if I didn't always have random arms, hands or tall people blocking me? That's what happens when the event is a Nocturne graver.

Cropping was my friend for most of the better looking results. A couple of fuzzy failures were kept either for an effect or to bookmark an attempted idea.

One of the perils of live gigs, indeed. Looks like you did fairly well despite the obstructions, though!

I really tried. I went for a range of angles. With the f1.8 lens, being at the stage edge wouldn't have helped because it can't focus on anything if you're too close, which ideally puts me exactly where the throng of moving people was.

I tried a few shots from the steps to the dance cage, which hopefully gave the impression of the thick crowd and the number of other photographers. Somebody asked me later on whether I was the "official event photographer", and I replied, "Yeah, one of five".
