Key bore

I was going to skip the post today, but I thought somebody might be able to help.

A couple of people most likely to buy me a gift were discussing it with me. Possibilities may include a laptop, since it would be fun to actually attend one of those NaNo all-nighters, but I expect I'd be looking at higher priced for something that isn't going to be a need until I move out. And who knows when that is.

Another possibility is a musical keyboard. The catch here is that while I can think of a couple of uses, like coming up with tracks to put together in my ultra low budget home studio, I couldn't say which direction I'm going to take with its use. I don't even know if getting really cool, possibly pseudo-analog sounds out of such a keyboard is a matter entirely left to preamp or production software or if it's a trademark of certain keyboards.

So, I'm just starting out with the intention of figuring out what I want and there's a definite possibility of getting a different thing later if I get a better idea. Where should I start?

Might be better to get something that has a large bank of different sound types. Pseudo-analog tends to be you-get-what-you-pay-for and the cheap stuff's not worth it.

Sounds good. The last advice I got on keys was from Steven, so you can imagine how long ago that was; now this is the best I'm going on.

Could check Craigslist...
