When you start reading this book, you meet Derek, who is escaping from something that we don’t exactly know anything about yet. Then he comes to a familiar sight and there are flashbacks to give us a clue into what is going on. The author has written a really great story about family and loyalties, which is rather complicated but really fun to read. Once the book starts to introduce us to even more people, including Derek’s relative, as well as Chandra, it starts to remind you a bit of the first few episodes of Game of Thrones. The main characters are enjoyable and deep, which you don’t always find in this type of book. Fantasy is not my favorite genre, but I felt this book had some likable qualities, mainly, the way the story keeps transitioning, like scenes from a movie. Even if you don’t normally like this type of story, this one may interest you.
