Towers and domes
Jun. 29th, 2010 01:10 pmThis is linked mostly for the photo, for Australians who've discussed replacing retractable domes with fixed roofs or just keeping the thing shut to conserve energy.
Olympic Stadium, Montreal. Complete with deliberately leaning tower, yes, I have been on that elevator ride and it scared me.
Difference here is, while the Rogers Centre is being rebranded as "An indoor stadium with some limited outdoor applications", it still gets used for concerts, home games from two different professional sports teams, and I even recall attending some sort of job or university fair there one time as a high school student.
I have no clue what they're doing with Olympic Stadium these days.
Also explains the problem of having a tarp-like retractable roof instead of a steel one, particularly in a place where it snows.
